There are several reason why you should purchase a game in its full-beauty special edition: mainly the artbook, the special case, bonus hard and digital contents, etc. Those special editions are usually full of collector’s bonuses and items. This is not Deus Ex Human Revolution Augmented Edition case. Why? That’s because it was badly designed since the beginning and not worth your money as comparted to other special editions out on the market as it is not loaded with special contents. The artbook is poorly printed and finished and is far away from what you probably seen with the same format but hard covered Unreal Tournament 3 collector’s edition. Augmented Edition Artbook comes with a soft cover that is also part of the 40 pages book… It features loads of art concepts that each game addict expected to see in larger format to appreciate in their beauty as talented game designer created them. Anyway, the booklet design and layout is pretty original and comes with a cyber-punk look starting from the dark yellow-orange cover. The Artbook is truly named “Deus Ex Human Revolution Design Work” that tells you a lot about what you’ll find inside.

There are 4 different chapters plus a Preface:
1) Preface: Jonathan Jacques-Belletête Art Director Deus Ex Human Revolution says “Art direction in videogame shouldn’t only be about making things look pretty, it should also be about communicating ideas”.

2) Cyber Renaissance: 8 pages featuring in-game special locations and dresses. We understand the idea about the chapter but should have had to be subdivided at least in different sub-chapters offering special details under magnifying glass expansion.

3) Environments: 7 pages showing in-game environments some are breathtaking

4) Characters: 10 pages about main characters that are turning Deus Ex Human Revolution game unique and astonishing. What we feel perhaps is that just main characters are well designd than the rest of NPCs are simply “standard designed models” without identity and good textures. Some in-game textures and details are looking exactly as Fallout 3 NPCs (terrible in our opinion).

5) Weapons & Props: 11 pages offering a full view about in-game weapons, stuff, vehicles and furnishings. This is a melt-in chapter that should have to be splitted at least in 3 different parts with more details.

[UPDATE 24 Sept 2011]: Taking a look to other Unboxing review on the web we just realized that the PC edition is the poorest on the rank: the same Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition for PS3 comes with the standard outer glide transparent box and better looking case back plus a HARD covered Artbook. The PC version has been forgotten from the marketing ad this is a very very very bad mistake from them also because the game it comes for is more or less the same. So the thumb is low down for the Marketing TEAM: guys down there YOU SUCK! Deus Ex born on PC not on stupid PS3. Very bad mistake from you forgetting each PC gamer offering a piece of shit artbook.
