This is the review of Mike Orlando’s second guitar solo album. 14-track CD fully reviewed, awesome high-resolution picture gallery of the jewelcase, videos plus music samples from Sonic Stomp guitar shred show!
We said Mike Orlando guitar shred style is a span above if compared to much more acclaimed guitarists on the market. After a full listening of his Sonic Stomp II album We say he is twice-above! Mike Orlando’s guitar shred is explosive and surprisignly as good as on acoustic guitar such as fretless-neck guitar. He is a guitar “mon-star” in our modest opinion with a huge guitar tone, masterclass-riffs plus mature sound. We reviewed Sonic Stomp I in June and just before Mike and his new atomic band Adrenaline Mob released their new self titled EP. Check out what we think about Sonic Stomp II and enjoy the album with several audio samples from his official YouTube Channel!

Throwdown: it is suddenly clear that this album rocks! Throwdown itself sounds fast, raw and has a central “slow” solo-core surprising the listener that might expect a blazing fast solo as the main riff. Throwdown main riff is something that you can’t simply stop and need to roll again and again. Don’t you trust us? Well, if you’re a guitar player you just have to listen to the sample below out from Mike’s website and YouTube! Channel.

Dig it..: there’s a fantastic series of repeted quick, intermediate, long shred from low to hi-notes. That’s a Steve Ray Vaughan inspired blue tone plus Paul Gilbert crazy touch but as said above, Mike Orlando guitar shred and riffing is totally different from other guitarist out there you can simply recognise his musical influences but nothing more. About 4’20″ there is something that each guitar player should listen to… that tricky part sounds great! “Digg” it if you really want!
-
Burn: explosive track, something in common with John 5 shred but 5+ times more creative! Is not this enough for you? Mike Orlando about 1’35″ adds a key point than again “that burning riff”!
-
Cirque De Insanity: simply a span ahead everything you heard in the past 50 years of guitar shred, soloing and creative guitar tone! Mike here plays like mad: imagine when you fastbackward a vinyl on the Djay station. The Cirque De Insanity half the listening seems touching its top level, but no, no, no, theres even more there! The second half gained a new awesome tempo and tone. What a fantastic musical scripting in this track!
-
Shaga Duga: back to “rock/heavy” sanity. What the hell this track name means? Neighter Google knows, but track name sounds cool as the music. Shaga Duga has two different medal-face: there is the heavy than the soloing step. Again past the intermediate side Mike shows how much intense his guitar-remarkable-play is.
-
A Wicked Bizzaa Guitaa: crazy track since the name. There’s strange drum beat here and there all along the track. It is perfectly placed to change a bit the album sound.
-
A Vision Of You: we can’t say this is the classical mid-tempo track in the middle of the album. It is way more than simply that! Mind blowin’ keyboard too.
-
Tapped Out: comes with nice vibratos and inspired singing guitar lick internal dialogue. 1’20″ best. 2’20″ stomp. Songwriting at its maximum!
-
My Black Cat Moaned: If we described Cirque De Insanity like a crazy track this Black Cat rises the bar a step higher!
-
A Sitting Ovation: no way to comment this song dedicated to Mike’s Mother and Father. Pure Emotions. Here it is for your fun out of Mike’s studio:
-
Full Speed X: exactly what the track name tells you. But what the X means? In our opinion the X factor is popping at 1’55″. Maybe we are wrong. Maybe Mike can explain!
-
The Game Show: great staccato play and drum beat stuffed togeter. 1’20″ the solo starts and is something you expect from Mike. The Game Show hides a great tempo change at 2’30″ and speeds up for an incredible second part. Sounds brilliant, brilliant.
-
Sonically Stomped: the pure Mike Orlando essence sound is in here. This track is special like “Sonic Stomp” 1st album was. This track will not be forget easly and has a special meaning: it describes exactly Mike’s guitar sound.
-
Circles In Squares: here comes the last track. The main riff is designed to be looped under the fist part of the track. Circles In Squares pushes inspired switching and different musical ideas alternate on to the other. What is great to realize is that Mike still sounds fresh after 13 tracks!
